Holiday apartment in Oscadnica: Veľká Rača, culture and winter sports

Veľká Rača is the highest peak in the Kysuce region and part of a national nature reserve. The hiking route from Oščadnica-Dedovka via Veľká Rača is moderately difficult, 7.2 km long and has an elevation gain of 594 m.

Nature and hiking

The route connects the starting point at Oščadnica-Dedovka with the summit of Veľká Rača and provides clear information about its length, elevation gain and difficulty level. Another way to explore the area is the educational trail Po stopách zbojníkov v pohraničí. In Oščadnica, it features five information panels and presents the theme of robbers and bandits through themed stations.

Cycling trails and connections

The most important cycling route in Kysuce runs through Čadca, Skalité, Oščadnica, Krásno nad Kysucou, Stará Bystrica and Vychylovka and is 60 km long. Within Oščadnica, local cycling route 2429 connects the center with the Kaštieľ. These two details refer to different routes: the most important cycling route passes through several places in Kysuce, while route 2429 connects two destinations within Oščadnica.

Culture and history

The Kaštieľ in Oščadnica, together with the adjacent forest park, was declared a National Cultural Monument of the Slovak Republic in 1973. The Kysucká galéria is also part of the local culture. It is a regional gallery specializing in modern art and currently manages more than 3,000 works of art.

Another historical reference is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary: it was first mentioned in 1804. The Kysuce pilgrimage to the Calvary in Oščadnica has taken place for several decades on the Sunday following the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on August 15.

The cultural destinations represent different forms of connection to the locality: the Kaštieľ is mentioned together with the forest park as a National Cultural Monument of the Slovak Republic, the gallery focuses on modern art, and the church refers to a specific historical date. The pilgrimage adds a date linked to the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Winter activities

Snowparadise connects the Dedovka, Marguška and Lalíky areas and has 14 km of ski slopes. Snowparadise Veľká Rača Oščadnica offers skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and ski touring. This means that the same winter sports destination offers various activities, from downhill skiing on ski slopes to cross-country skiing and ski touring.

The names of the three areas and the figure of 14 kilometers initially describe the spatial and numerical extent of Snowparadise. In addition, the description lists four different winter sports: skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and ski touring. The slope length and the list of activities therefore remain separate components of the offering.

Getting around the area

The Alpine Coaster starts next to the upper station of the cable car in Dedovka and ends at the same place. It reaches speeds of up to 40 km/h. The precise route is described by the fact that both the start and the end are at the upper station in Dedovka.
