Prahova County lies on the southern slopes of the Southern Carpathians, covers 4,716 km² and has a rectangular shape that encompasses mountains, hills and plains.

Nature
Bucegi Nature Park is a protected area and part of the Natura 2000 network. Over thousands of years, wind erosion of conglomerate rock has created natural rock formations there, including Sfinxul and Babele, which are among the most impressive in Europe.

Culture
PeleÈ™ Castle was built at the initiative of King Carol I as a summer residence and served political, cultural and symbolic functions. In 1953, the castle became a national museum and was opened to the general public.
The royal residences of Sinaia comprise Peleș, Pelișor and Foișor. They are located in a landscaped park surrounded by old forests and mountain cliffs.
The George Enescu Memorial House in Sinaia has been a department of the George Enescu National Museum since 2007. Documentary materials about the musician’s life and work are displayed there in two rooms. George Enescu also had Vila Luminiș in Sinaia built between 1923 and 1926 according to his own plans.
The Sinaia City Museum is housed in the Palatul Florescu-Știrbei, which was built in 1875. It has been open to the general public since 18 December 2017.
The Museum of Sinaia Monastery displays the Bucharest Bible from 1688 and five icons by Pârvu Mutu dating from around 1693. The museum opened for public visits in 1895, is considered the first museum of its kind in Romania and has operated continuously since its foundation.
The Roman fort of Drajna de Sus is located on Grădiștea Hill between the valleys of the Ogretin and Drajna rivers and was built during the First Dacian War in AD 101 and 102.
Numerous Romanian and foreign scientific and cultural figures came and went at Nicolae Iorga’s house in Vălenii de Munte; Iorga founded several cultural institutions there.
Special Places
Visitors currently reach Mina Unirea in the Slănic Prahova salt mine by minibus, travelling down to a depth of 208 metres. Slănic can be reached via the DN1 national road and by minibuses departing every 30 minutes from Ploiești Nord.
Mina Unirea was created by extracting 2.9 million m³ of salt and comprises 14 trapezoidal chambers covering an area of approximately 80,000 m².
Mina Unirea has sports courts, go-karting, table tennis, billiards, air hockey and mini golf. A children’s play area is also part of Mina Unirea.
Regional Special Features
Gura Vadului was officially presented as Romania’s first wine tourism destination, or first wine tourism station.
