Discover Bușteni: Mountains, Culture and Holiday Apartments

Castelul Cantacuzino in Bușteni was built in 1911 in the Neo-Romanian and Neo-Brâncovenesc styles. Mănăstirea Caraiman Monastery was founded in 1998 on the initiative of the priest Gherontie Puiu. It is located in Bușteni at the foot of the Bucegi Mountains and at an altitude of approximately 900 m. This means that the site combines a clearly dated construction history, a relatively recent ecclesiastical foundation and a location in the Bucegi mountain region.

Culture and History

Biserica Domnească is a reduced-scale architectural replica of Horezu Monastery. Casa memorială „Cezar Petrescu“ was officially opened as a museum on 17 December 1967, after the heirs had offered to donate the house to the state and this offer had been accepted. A small museum of the Bucegi Mountains and local traditions includes exhibition rooms as well as collections of insects, rocks and fossils and historical photographs of the region’s natural environment. The museum holdings therefore range from insects to rocks and fossils and photographs; at the same time, the Casa memorială documents a precisely dated step in its institutional history. The architectural relationship between Biserica Domnească and Horezu Monastery is explicitly defined as that of a reduced-scale replica.

Mountains and Hiking

Crucea Eroilor Neamului is located on the Caraiman saddle at 2,291 m and is 39.3 m high. The Caraiman Peak Heroes Cross monument is located in the immediate vicinity of Bușteni. In Bucegi Natural Park lies the themed hiking trail “Busteni - Jepii Mici - Babele”. It is 5.18 km long and takes approximately 4.5 hours. The medium to difficult rating indicates the physical demands of the trail.
