The year 1578 is considered the year of the first document in which the name Berceni appears. The Biserica Sf. Nicolae church in Berceni was built in 1891. Until the 1950s and 1960s, the church in Berceni housed three icons painted by Pârvu Mutu.

Berceni was a residence of the Kretzulescu boyar family. The “Sf. Nicolae” and “Sf. Eustaţie Plachida” church ensemble in Corlătești is listed in the Romanian register of historic monuments. The entry bears the code PH-II-a-A-16439 and is dated 1792.
