Discover Comarnic: Churches, Mountain Trails and Festivals on Pleșuva

The Muzeul Cinegetic al Carpaților Posada is located in Comarnic’s Posada district, in Martha Bibescu Castle. It was founded in 1996 as a department of the Muzeul Național Peleș. The museum is situated on the left bank of the Prahova, on the DN1 and about 4 km from Sinaia. The DN1 national road passes through Comarnic and connects Ploiești with Brașov.

Culture

The Schitul Lespezi stands near Posada and is a monument of 17th-century Romanian feudal art. Its interior paintings were created by Pârvu Mutu. The hermitage is located in a forest at the foot of Pleșuva Mică and on the left bank of the Prahova.

The Biserica Sfântul Nicolae in the Vatra Sat district was built in 1905 in the Byzantine style, with three towers. Its iconostasis was donated by Gheorghe Valentin Bibescu and his wife Martha Bibescu.

More than twenty listed or historic houses stand along Comarnic’s main road, the DN1. They were built between 1878 and 1930 and give the road axis a collection of buildings from different periods of construction.

The Biblioteca din pădure is a library located in a forest. In it, the literary project “Proiectul Cărților Călătoare” enables the free exchange of books.

Trails and Mountain Landscapes

The route from Comarnic via Ghioșeștiul de Sus to Vârful Pleșuva runs north of the city along the left bank of the Prahova. The trail is initially easier and becomes quite steep towards the summit.

In good visibility, the route to Vârful Pleșuva offers views across the entire Prahova Valley to Câmpina and further in the direction of Ploiești.

There are several mountain trails around Comarnic that can be walked. They can be completed as out-and-back routes in a few hours.

Comarnic also serves as a starting point for numerous mountain-bike routes connected to Valea Doftanei.

Nature

Cascada Posada is located in Valea Conciului in Comarnic, at the exit from the city towards Sinaia. The unmarked footpath, approximately three kilometres long, begins at the DN1 on Strada Podu lui Neag, crosses the railway line and follows the watercourse.

Events

The Festivalul Drapelului takes place in Comarnic annually or in consecutive years. The cultural event is dedicated to the Romanian national flag, Romanian values, national folklore and music.

At the initiative of the mayor of the city of Comarnic, several people climb to the summit of Pleșuva every year to hoist the Romanian flag there once again.

The Festivalul Pleșuva takes place on 14 and 15 August at the foot of Mount Pleșuva near Canton Mezdrea and includes live electronic music as well as folk music.
