In Łódź Heights Landscape Park, a hilly landscape unique to central Poland is protected. Springs and streams shape the area, which is also home to remarkable wildlife. Other landscapes in the region also have their own character. Sulejów Landscape Park protects wooded natural areas preserved as remnants of the former Puszcza Pilicka. Historic Sites and Regional Culture
Oporów Castle combines a distinctive architectural style with a museum collection. The small late Gothic fortified residence stands on an island surrounded by a moat. In the castle museum, you can see an exhibition of stately interiors, as well as paintings, sculptures and works of decorative art. This offers a different cultural focus from the landscape parks, with architecture and collections taking centre stage.
Another important cultural heritage site is the Cistercian abbey in Sulejów-Podklasztorze, considered one of the best-preserved examples of a medieval monastic complex of the order in Europe. The palace in Nieborów, in turn, is a branch of the National Museum in Warsaw. It preserves art collections and 18th-century interiors. Arkadia offers a different form of historic design: Helena Radziwiłłowa laid out the romantic-sentimental English-style park in the 17th century. Its features include the Temple of Diana and a Roman Aqueduct. The Łowicz Ethnographic Park, by contrast, focuses on rural life. It is the only large open-air museum in the Łódź Voivodeship and recreates an entire village. In Bolimów, the pottery workshop of the Konopczyński family is one of the few places in the voivodeship where traditional crafts are still practised.
