Sieradz combines a rich architectural history with insights into the region’s culture and traditional crafts. Historic churches and other buildings stand alongside the Muzeum Okręgowe and the Sieradzki Park Etnograficzny. The 120-kilometre Sieradzka eSka cycling route also passes through the town. This means you can tailor your trip to Sieradz to your interests in history, museums or a longer bike ride.

Buildings with Different Histories

The parish church, now the Basilica Minor of All Saints, is a stone building dating from the 14th century. It was extended between 1648 and 1682 and again in 1930. Another period is represented by the former Dominican monastery complex, now used by the Ursulines. Its stone Church of St Stanislaus was built between 1230 and 1250 and was later altered after 1331 and between 1693 and 1718. Both buildings have long histories, but their documented construction and alteration phases differ.

Other buildings, too, reflect different uses. The town theatre is a brick building dating from before 1874; it was altered in 1900, 1924 and after 1950. The former wooden manor house, known as “dworek modrzewiowy”, dates from 1860. It was restored between 1978 and 1980 and designed in the so-called Swiss style. A former brick inn from the first half of the 19th century now houses the Office for Art Exhibitions. The building was extended in the early 20th century and restored in the neoclassical style between 1982 and 1987.

Regional History and Crafts

The Muzeum Okręgowe in Sieradz collects, studies and makes available monuments and historical objects relating to the history of the Sieradz region. The museum has taken part in the “Noc Muzeów” event since 2006. For the occasion, it prepares temporary exhibition openings, concerts, meetings with regional historians and collectors, film screenings, children’s workshops and multimedia presentations. For families interested in culture, the children’s workshop is a specific programme item explicitly mentioned as part of this event.

Traditional techniques and crafts are at the heart of the Sieradzki Park Etnograficzny, which organises craft workshops, museum lessons and demonstrations. Its grounds lie between the Żeglina River and the Paradzianka Reservoir, at the foot of the historic castle hill. The site therefore combines insights into crafts with a clearly described location between bodies of water and a historic hill.

Opening Hours, Cycling Route and Getting There

The Sieradzki Park Etnograficzny is open to visitors from 15 April to 15 October. From Tuesday to Friday, opening hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm; on Saturdays and Sundays, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The park is closed on Mondays. Wheelchair users can visit the grounds and the exhibition pavilion displaying agricultural equipment. This information helps you plan when to visit the park and take the accessible areas into account.

If you would like to include a longer bike ride in your trip, the 120-kilometre Sieradzka eSka route passes through Sieradz. About 60 percent of it runs along paved roads, with the rest on gravel and sand. These different surfaces are a practical consideration when adding the route to your travel plans. Sieradz can be reached via the S8 expressway between Wrocław, Łódź and Białystok, using the Sieradz Wschód and Sieradz-Południe junctions. The town is also crossed by the double-track railway line No. 14 from Łódź Kaliska to Tuplice in Lubusz Voivodeship; it is a main line of national importance.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Sieradz, you can base your choice on the experiences you want your trip to focus on: architectural history, the regional museum and crafts, or the longer cycling route. This lets you first choose the right focus for your trip without combining the different offerings into a single itinerary.
