The town is situated on the Mrożyca River in the historic Łęczyca Land, approximately 20 km east of Łódź.
From the 15th to the 17th century, Brzeziny was involved in trade between Toruń and Ruthenia. Craftsmanship and tailoring were economically important. The town had one of the oldest Jewish communities in Poland and was known for its Jewish tailors.
