Limburg: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Limburg combines a diverse heritage landscape with open peatlands, large national parks, signposted hiking trails, and regional traditions. The province has more than 5,000 state-protected monuments. Almost as many municipal monuments as state-protected monuments complement this cultural heritage. In Limburg, history, landscape, and contemporary regional culture are therefore closely intertwined.

Culture

An important chapter in European history is connected with the government in Limburg: the Treaty of Maastricht was signed there. In 2018, the Treaty of Maastricht was awarded the European Heritage Label. Recurring traditions are also part of the province's cultural identity. The Oud Limburgse Schuttersfeest takes place every year on the first Sunday in July. Churches and monasteries are cultural and historical monuments that are characteristic of the Limburg landscape.

The collection of the Limburgs Museum offers a broad chronological and thematic perspective. It currently comprises 83,000 objects. Attractiepark Toverland, which has indoor playgrounds, represents another aspect of the cultural offering. The range of places visited thus extends from historical evidence and sacred architecture to a day-trip destination with covered play areas.

Nature

De Groote Peel National Park lies on the border between Limburg and Noord-Brabant, in the Meijel–Asten–Nederweert triangle. It consists largely of a contiguous remnant raised bog, which is rare in the Netherlands. The national park is also characterized by an open landscape and a special diversity of bird species. Hiking is possible in De Groote Peel National Park.

In the north of Limburg, De Maasduinen National Park lies between the Meuse and the German border. It covers 4,500 hectares. The national park is freely accessible on roads and paths; there are 17 marked hiking trails in total.

De Meinweg National Park lies east of Roermond and covers 1,600 hectares. Visitor management in De Meinweg National Park includes designated hiking trails and guided excursions, among other things, allowing hikers, cyclists, and horse riders to enjoy nature and the landscape.

Trails

The Krijtlandpad is a 91-kilometre long-distance hiking trail in South Limburg. It complements the shorter marked hiking trails in De Maasduinen National Park and the hiking opportunities in De Groote Peel with a longer route. The Krijtlandpad is described as a long-distance hiking trail measuring 91 kilometres, while De Maasduinen has a total of 17 marked hiking trails and De Groote Peel offers hiking opportunities.

The Limburgse Maasvallei is and remains an attractive place to live, work, relax, and enjoy life.
