At the Fahlt, woodland and exercise take centre stage: the area is used for walking, jogging and sports activities. Drosteipark is just behind Pinneberg’s city centre. Its walking paths and opportunities for sport and exercise add a distinctive feature to the city.

The Baumpark in Pinneberg brings together 26 “Trees of the Year”. The idea was developed as part of the 2013 International Garden Show igs Hamburg, in the Pinneberger Baumschulland exhibition area. The Pinneberg Tree Nursery Museum also explores the subject of nursery horticulture: it is the only museum on this topic in the German-speaking world. Together, the park and museum offer two different ways to explore nursery culture – through trees in open spaces and through the history of the nursery trade.

Culture and activities in Pinneberg

The Drostei is the cultural centre of the Pinneberg district. Its programme includes exhibitions, concerts and literary events. If you would like to combine cultural activities and exercise during your stay, you can make it a focus in its own right alongside the city’s green spaces, without treating the different places and themes as one and the same.

On the water, the Cablesport Arena Pinneberg offers a different kind of active leisure: the cable park is located on a lake and is used for water skiing and wakeboarding. Check the season and prices before your visit, as both can change. This lets you plan water sports as a separate activity from walks and jogging routes.

Gardens and nature in the wider Pinneberg district

Beyond the city, the wider Pinneberg district offers further destinations for garden and nature enthusiasts. The Ellerhoop Arboretum covers 17.3 hectares and features a variety of themed gardens. From Hamburg, take the RB 61 or S3 to Pinneberg, then bus 185 or X95 to the Ellerhoop, Arboretum stop, followed by a walk of about 700 metres. Check the connection before you travel, as timetables can change.

The grounds of the Uetersen Rosarium were opened to the public on 23 June 1934 to mark the town’s 700th anniversary. During the official rose season, from mid-June to early September, a free guided tour takes place there on Sundays at 10:30 am. Check the seasonal dates before your trip so you can plan your visit accordingly.

The natural landscape of the wider district is also very different from its parks. The Haseldorfer Binnenelbe and Elbvorland Nature Reserve is one of the largest contiguous nature reserves away from the coast in Schleswig-Holstein. A large cormorant breeding colony is located in a protected area of the reserve. In the Wedeler Marsch, the NABU bird station can only be reached on foot or by bicycle; visitors can watch the bird migration there at sunrise or sunset.
