Culture

The Moorrege Bee Museum provides information about bees, bee colonies and beekeeping. Exhibits include a glass observation hive and beekeeping equipment. It is described as Schleswig-Holstein’s only bee museum.

Another special place is the manufacturer’s villa “Schloß Düneck”, classified as a listed residential building of the villa type at Klinkerstraße 28 in Moorrege. Schloss Düneck was built in 1871 and is surrounded by a 3.6-hectare park with wildlife, a tea house, an orangery and a fishpond. The estate combines château, Victorian and Neo-Grec elements with North German brickwork.

The piano nobile of Schloss Düneck contains a gallery hall with a Steinway concert grand piano, a library and a winter garden. The building is primarily private, but is described as an open house that is occasionally accessible to the public. Celebrations, park picnics, music, art, culinary events, tea times and discussion groups have already taken place there.

The modern St. Michael’s Church dates from the 1960s and can be visited outside regular services. Inside, there is a figure of the Archangel Michael and a stained-glass window depicting the twelve gates of Jerusalem. A self-administered Moorrege-Heist congregation was established in Moorrege in 1954.

History

Moorrege lies along an old trade and ox-driver route.

At the Pinnau, the Klevendeich swing bridge crosses the river between Neuendeich and Moorrege-Klevendeich. It was built in 1887 and is a technical monument. One of its steel truss spans rotates to allow shipping to pass; the bridge is also among Europe’s oldest surviving swing bridges.

Nature

The Oberglinde natural outdoor pool offers a natural swimming experience with regularly monitored water quality. The gently sloping shore allows children to splash around and learn to swim. There is also a beach volleyball court, and admission is free.

The Oberglinde natural pool is located at a former gravel pit lake in Moorrege’s Oberglinde district. The bathing lake is surrounded by greenery. The Moorrege, Oberglinde bus stop is approximately a five-minute walk from the Oberglinde natural outdoor pool.
