Culture and History

Groß Nordende belonged to the Lordship of Pinneberg and became a Prussian rural municipality in 1867. A section of the Ochsenweg also runs through the village. Its historical context includes cattle drives from Denmark to northern Germany from the late 15th century onwards.

NORVIK operates an early medieval educational and activity centre in Groß Nordende; it offers individually arranged programmes featuring historical crafts, Viking studies and weapons practice, as well as year-round birthday events with games and competitions.

The Plantenhoff Café in Groß Nordende is located on a former farm and offers homemade cakes, gateaux and ice cream. Apple cultivation is widespread in the Seestermüher Marsch; fruit is often sold directly from farms.
