Quickborn: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Quickborn is the starting point for the approximately 35-kilometre Himmelmoor Tour. The route leads through meadows, fields and small paths towards Himmelmoor and passes the Wulfsmühle mill at the Mühlenteich pond as an intermediate stop before reaching Himmelmoor. For travelling to the area, Quickborn railway station provides connections to Deutsche Bahn regional services.

Nature

Himmelmoor is a 600-hectare peat bog that has been undergoing renaturalisation since 1980, following more than 250 years of peat extraction. It provides protected habitat for rare animals and plants. An educational trail with information boards and 15 interactive stations provides insights into the moor; a historic peat railway also offers another way to experience Himmelmoor.

Quickborn’s nature experience area includes an accessible path connecting the sensory garden with the phenological garden. A pavilion there provides information about phenology and current observations. The phenological garden also features benches and tables.

Leisure

The centrally located outdoor swimming pool in Quickborn can be reached by bus and train. It has separate areas for non-swimmers and swimmers, a stainless-steel diving pool and a paddling pool for children. The rest of the grounds include a water mushroom, a lazy river, a neck shower, a large sunbathing lawn, a football area, a volleyball court and a bistro.

For indoor exercise, Quickborn’s Jumping Point offers dodgeball, high jumping, tricks in the foam pit and several trampoline areas.

Culture

St Mary’s Church was consecrated in 1809 as the first sacred building designed by Danish court architect Christian Frederik Hansen. Its neo-Romanesque tower was added in 1863; the church has been a listed monument since 1968.

The historic industrial monument on Kieler Straße includes the former road maintenance worker’s house at Kieler Straße 7. A fountain on Börnplatz commemorates the historic cattle trough from which the name Quickborn developed. A memorial stele for Paul Warnecke was erected and unveiled in the small birch grove in 2019.
