Neuerburg is situated in the romantic Enz Valley and is surrounded by wooded hills. The town is home to Neuerburg Castle, the largest surviving castle complex in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm. The castle courtyard and the castle chapel, which was formerly a knights’ hall, can be visited.

Culture

The market square dates back to 1820 and is connected to narrow, winding alleyways. In the centre of Neuerburg and along the wooded outskirts of the town, there are three chapels and numerous wayside shrines. Stadtpark, with its green spaces, a pond, two small waterfalls on the Enz and a children’s playground, lies below Neuerburg Castle.

Nature

From the Kleine Kanzel and Große Kanzel viewpoints, there are views of Neuerburg’s rooftops, the castle complex and the Enz Valley. The Neuer-Burg-Weg trail climbs over rocks and past old sessile oaks to viewpoints above the town.

Activities

The Neuerburg via ferrata is a 4.5-kilometre circular route that connects six climbing sections on rock faces and offers views over the town. Each climbing section can be bypassed, allowing hikers and climbers to use the route together. Professional climbing equipment is required for the via ferrata; it can be rented from the tourist information point at Marktplatz 3.

Neuerburg has no direct rail connection; the nearest railway station is Bitburg-Erdorf.
