Hiking
The R 7 circular hiking trail is 6.9 kilometres long and starts and ends in Heilbach. The village is also part of a network of seven circular hiking routes used jointly with Ammeldingen bei Neuerburg, Emmelbaum and Plascheid. Routes R 1 to R 7 are signposted and available online via the Outdooractive app. Each of the four municipalities involved in the shared network has an information board about the hiking trails.
Culture
Several historic wayside crosses dating from the 18th century can be found in Heilbach and especially in Windhausen. They are presented as evidence of the region’s religious past. Southeast of Heilbach, a well-preserved pedestal cross stands on the road to Neuerburg and Krautscheid. Pilgrims from Prüm and Waxweiler who were travelling to the Echternach Spring Procession erected the processional cross in 1893.
History
The Quereinhaus is characterised by several construction phases dating back at least to the mid-18th century. It retains a hallway kitchen with the smoke hood of a former open hearth, as well as a living room with a Taken opening and profiled ceiling beams. A separate, smaller utility building belonging to the Quereinhaus still contains a bread oven.
