A museum with an unusual collection

The Stove and Iron Museum displays more than 200 different cast-iron stoves and 40,000 exhibits across around 500 m². These include cast-iron stove plates, scales and weights, waffle and communion wafer irons, fireplace saws, and irons, as well as wall and grandfather clocks and gramophones. The collection goes beyond stoves to cover everyday objects and the history of technology. The museum also documents the development of stove building using cast iron from the 16th to the 20th century.

The museum has different opening hours depending on the season: From November 1 until Easter, it is open by appointment. From Good Friday through October 31, it is open Wednesday to Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Take these seasonal hours into account when planning a museum visit during your stay.

Local history and regional highlights

The Catholic branch church of St. Anthony at Antoniusstraße 1 is a hall church with a subtly historicizing style, built in 1900. The architect is named as Knepper of Diekirch, Luxembourg. At Antoniusstraße 6 is a representative, three-wing farmstead dating from the 19th century. It includes a residence with a bakehouse and an annexe for retired farmers; the residence bears the date 1838. The buildings illustrate different forms of historic residences and farmsteads in the village.

A historic house is also described on Talstraße: The substantial house at Talstraße 14 has a five-bay residential section and dates from around 1840 to 1850. The two-bay bakehouse, or annexe for retired farmers, is probably only slightly newer. The approximate dating and cautious assessment of the outbuilding apply to this house and should be distinguished from the date 1838 on the farmstead on Antoniusstraße.

A local tradition is the church fair, when residents gather on the name day of Saint Anthony. The celebration had disappeared for a long time before being revived. Regional specialties also include Noutzen, traditionally baked quark balls described as an Eifel specialty. Kirmesdröp is an Eifel schnapps distilled in Hüttingen by Michael Fisch. These traditions and products complement the hiking and cultural themes with insights into local life.
