Nusbaum: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nusbaum is located in the South Eifel Nature Park. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Nusbaum can then continue searching for accommodation. South of Nusbaum lies the Nusbaumer Hardt, one of the largest contiguous forest areas in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Nature and Trails

Hiking opportunities around Nusbaum include the 12 km Nusbaumer-Hardt Loop, the 6.2 km Nusbaum-Schankweiler Loop and the 14.6 km Nusbaum–Kruchten route. Route 46 of the South Eifel Nature Park runs entirely along forest paths through the Nusbaumer Hardt. It is signposted throughout, and no road used by motor vehicles has to be crossed. Two Swiss-Tracs can be rented for this route. The sections of the Way of St. James that run through the Irrel collective municipality are marked with designated trail signs.

Culture and History

The Fraubillenkreuz was first mentioned in writing in 1470. It may originally have been a menhir. The cross is three and a half metres high and has shallow niches on both sides. It is freely accessible at all times.

St. Peter's Church in Nusbaum is a hall church built in 1848–50, featuring Neo-Romanesque motifs and a Classical western tower. Inside, a pulpit and pew fronts in Rococo forms have been preserved; they presumably originate from the previous church.

The St. Cornelius Chapel in Freilingen was first recorded in 1570. Its tower formerly served as a defensive tower. The chapel contains three Baroque altars; it was placed under heritage protection in 1984.
