Culture and History

The Museum of the City of Alzey was founded in 1906 and is housed in the former municipal hospital in the city centre. A dedicated section focuses on Jewish history in the Alzey region. There is also a section on Volker von Alzey, the knightly minstrel from the Nibelungenlied. The Stone Hall at Alzey Museum houses significant Roman stone monuments from the city.

The Wartberg Tower is a historic landmark of Alzey and serves as an observation tower. The present tower was rebuilt in 1989 following an earlier destruction and reconstruction. The former town hall stands at Fischmarkt; this Renaissance building, erected in 1586, was constructed using stones from Weidas Monastery. The former town hall also houses a carillon featuring a figure of Volker von Alzey.

Rossmarkt is characterised by the Rossmarkt Fountain and two decorative half-timbered houses dating from the 17th and early 18th centuries, respectively. At Hexenbleiche, medieval remains of the town wall and the Butchers' Tower have been preserved; the latter is probably the oldest tower in Alzey's fortifications.

Leisure

Wartbergbad has four solar-heated pools for sport and leisure. These include a 25-metre swimming pool and a non-swimmers' pool with a 70-metre slide.

Trails

The City Walk for Everyone leads through the centre of Alzey and passes 12 sights. Eight of its stops are fully accessible to wheelchair users.

The Alzey Art and Culture Trail features 20 works of art and 22 vineyard huts among the vines.
