Biebelnheim: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Biebelnheim lies at the foot of the Rosenberg and Pilgerstein vineyards, near Petersberg. Winegrowing shapes the village: nine wineries and a similar number of hobby winegrowers cultivate just over 200 hectares of vineyards. The calcareous soils of the Pilgerstein vineyard are particularly well suited to Burgundy grape varieties. Wine and Landscape

At the local wine bar, the Udo Diel winery offers wine tastings and wine sales and welcomes pilgrims on the Way of St. James. The Way of St. James leads through the vineyards of the Biebelnheim Pilgerstein vineyard and then continues uphill towards the nearby Petersberg.

History

The village has a long history: a church in Biebelnheim was first documented in 1216. The Biebelnheim Pilgrims' Hospital existed approximately from 1350 to 1567. The Catholic church was built on the former grounds of the Pilgrims' Hospital in 1737. The Catholic church also houses three wooden figures from the 14th century. The Protestant church was built in its present form in 1769–1770. During renovations to the Protestant church in 1887, a gravestone dating from 1589 for Margarethe von Biebelnheim was discovered. Next to the cemetery stands a substantial stone wall, interpreted as the remains of a former castle estate.

Routes and Arrival

Landhaus Pilgerhof offers accommodation and meals for pilgrims directly on the Rheinhessen Pilgrims' Way in Biebelnheim. By car, Biebelnheim can be reached via exit 7 of the A63; from there, it is approximately 2 kilometres to the village. Bus route 660 connects Biebelnheim with Mainz and Alzey.
