Kettenheim: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kettenheim reveals its special character in a more than 300-year-old town hall, which is considered one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in the region. The picturesque historic town center brings together the town hall, the Protestant church, the newly redesigned square, and the adjacent buildings.

Landscape

Kettenheim lies on the southern slope of the Wartberg in the valley of the Weidasser Bach. The 320-hectare municipal area includes approximately 30 hectares of vineyards, which also shape the landscape of the village.

Getting Around

Kettenheim has road connections to federal highway B 271 and to the A 61 and A 63 motorways. Cycle paths connect the village with Esselborn and Wahlheim. The signposted Mühlenradweg cycle route from Alzey also runs through the Kettenheim municipal area.

Culture and History

The history of the village goes back a long way: prehistoric settlement in Kettenheim is evidenced by finds of graves made of clay and bronze. The Protestant church has a Romanesque choir tower, a tower extension dating from 1575, and a new nave added in 1816, for which material from Weidas Monastery was used.

Experiences

The Wiesenmühle in Kettenheim was first mentioned in 1738. It is a four-winged complex of quarry-stone and half-timbered buildings in which historic mill machinery has been preserved. Mill tours with explanations of the technology are offered. The Wiesenmühle guesthouse also houses an exhibition on the history of the mill.

A guided tour of the old mill building offers a hands-on encounter with the miller's craft. The Wiesenmühle is also available for guest celebrations in a historic setting.

Wine

Mathis' Wein-Café has been open at the Wiesenmühle since 2022.
