Water, Fens and Shaped Landscapes

In the nature park, terminal moraine ridges and hilly ground moraines meet drumlins, ramparts and inland dunes. Kettle holes, ribbon lakes and flowing fens are also among its landforms. Hiking Trails, Waterways and a Longer Route

Uckermark has 1,200 kilometres of designated hiking trails. Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park has more than 600 kilometres of signposted hiking trails and over 150 kilometres of canoe routes. These figures refer to different areas and types of routes, so you can choose whether you would rather plan your outings on foot or on the water. The Märkischer Landweg runs for 217 kilometres in ten stages across Uckermark and through three National Natural Landscapes. Its stages offer a different scale from individual outings; you can choose specific stages to suit your own travel plans.

The Oder Valley with Certified Canoe Guides

The Lower Oder Valley National Park lies on the eastern edge of Uckermark, directly connected to the Oder River and neighbouring Poland. A guided canoe tour offers a different perspective on the water from the nature park’s canoe routes: accompanied by certified canoe guides, visitors explore the Oder’s narrow old river channels along several routes. Tours run from May or July through November. This seasonal schedule is important when planning; the guided tour and its distinctive route are clearly different from a hike on land.

Railway History, Art and Collections

The Gramzow Railway Museum combines exhibitions with activities centred on historic railway vehicles. On operating days, visitors can ride on historic vehicles and drive handcars. The museum displays vehicles from different periods, while other exhibitions focus on track construction, workshop operations, railway operations and transport services. Technical installations can be found both outdoors and inside buildings. This brings hands-on railway experiences together with the history of railway operations and technology.

Another cultural stop is the heritage-listed Gramzow granary, now an art venue for photography, language, literature and concerts. In Prenzlau, the Museum of Cultural History in the Dominican monastery displays an extensive collection of medieval objects. Highlights include sacred sculptures, archaeological finds from Seehausen Monastery and objects relating to legal history. The collection thus ranges from technological history to art and medieval artefacts.

Rafting Festival and Castle Estate

Lychen hosts the annual Rafting Festival on the Oberpfuhl promenade. Both days feature an entertainment programme and hands-on activities for children and adults. The festival is a regular fixture on the events calendar, while Boitzenburg Castle offers a different highlight with its architecture and parkland: it is considered the largest castle estate in the Mark Brandenburg outside the royal palaces of Potsdam and is surrounded by a Lenné-designed park.
