Urban history between the museum and the Mündesee promenade

The extensive archaeological collection at the Angermünde Museum includes ceramic vessels dating from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. The permanent exhibition “History and Stories” presents discoveries in Angermünde and stories associated with Ehm Welk. Archaeological periods and stories connected with Ehm Welk give the exhibition a range of thematic perspectives.

St. Mary’s Church was completed around 1250 as the parish church of the town and remains largely in its original condition. The church houses the Wagner organ, built between 1742 and 1744; it has 30 stops and around 2,000 sounding pipes. Another striking structure is the Powder Tower: it is 21 metres high and extends 3.50 metres below ground.

Stone sculptures made from massive glacial granite boulders stand along the Mündesee promenade. They were created in connection with the hard-stone symposia held in Angermünde from 1997 onwards. The promenade itself was built where ramparts once served to repel attackers. Public art and a reminder of the former defensive structure thus come together in this place.

A digital audio guide takes you on a roughly 2.5-kilometre circuit to various attractions and historic sites in Angermünde. A guided tour of the historic town centre lasts 1.5 hours and leads through small, narrow lanes alongside a historic town wall. A wildlife park with attractions for a range of interests

Angermünde Wildlife Park covers seven hectares and is home to around 250 animals from 45 species representing every continent. Petting enclosures with ponies, goats and guinea pigs, along with an adventure playground, add to the wildlife park visit. The zoo school offers themed guided tours, animal safaris, and project and hiking days. The programme thus includes both a visit to the park and dedicated activities centred on animals and nature.

The Uckermark as a regional destination in its own right

The wider Uckermark destination offers additional landscape and cultural experiences. Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park lies amid the Uckermark’s gently rolling, water-rich landscape and encompasses many clear-water lakes, kettle holes and moors. It offers more than 150 kilometres of water trails and over 600 kilometres of signposted hiking trails. This gives you the option of planning trips in the Uckermark with a greater focus on water or hiking.

Railway history is also part of the Uckermark: Gramzow Railway Museum displays historic railway vehicles from different periods, as well as exhibitions on track construction, workshop operations, and railway operations and transport services. Technical equipment can be seen outdoors and inside buildings. On operating days, the museum railway offers rides on historic railway vehicles and the chance to drive handcars yourself.
