The forests are also part of the area’s natural character: the largest mushroom-growing area in the Gerswalde administrative district lies in the forests around Milmersdorf and Mittenwalde. The Uckermark Lakes Nature Park lies amid the water-rich, gently rolling Uckermark. Its landscape includes numerous clear-water lakes, kettle holes and wetlands, as well as terminal moraine ridges, rolling ground moraines, drumlins, rampart hills, inland dunes, channel lakes and wetlands fed by flowing water. The nature park offers more than 150 kilometres of water trails and over 600 kilometres of marked hiking trails. These regional trail networks provide a broader setting than Milmersdorf’s specific nature and waterside destinations.
Culture and technology also complement the Uckermark’s nature themes. The Gramzow Railway Museum displays historic railway vehicles from different periods, as well as exhibitions on track construction, workshop operations, and railway operations and transport services. Technical equipment can be seen outdoors and inside buildings. On operating days, the museum railway offers rides on historic railway vehicles and the chance to drive handcars yourself. The Floßfest (Rafting Festival) in Lychen and Boitzenburg Castle are further regional highlights. The Floßfest is held every year on the Oberpfuhl Promenade; on both days, there is an entertainment programme and hands-on activities for children and adults. Boitzenburg Castle is considered the largest Brandenburg manor complex outside the royal palaces of Potsdam and is surrounded by a Lenné park. Both examples are in the Uckermark and broaden the perspective on regional culture and landscape without replacing Milmersdorf’s local features.
