Discover Oder-Welse: Landscape, Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Oder-Welse
Between the Welsebruch, lakes and the Oder, Oder-Welse unfolds across a wide range of landscapes. The municipal area stretches from the Welsebruch in the north, across ground moraines dotted with numerous lakes, to the Oder. It also includes protected landscapes, cultural attractions in Pinnow and a historically documented viewpoint in Stützkow. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether nature, water or history should play a greater role in your stay.
Protected landscapes and geographical range
The Oder-Welse municipal area includes part of the Lower Oder Valley National Park. This should be distinguished from the “Lower Oder Valley National Park Region” landscape conservation area: in the Uckermark district, it covers all or part of the municipalities of Pinnow and Schöneberg. The names refer to different protected-area designations, not two versions of the same name.
Milmersdorf: Nature and water from a different perspective
Within the broader travel destination of Milmersdorf, the locality lies in the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve and along a moraine trail. Visitors can observe native wildlife from the nearby forests of the Schorfheide along field and hiking trails. This brings together landforms, trails and wildlife watching as distinct nature-related attractions.
Kölpinsee in the municipality of Milmersdorf is also accessible via hiking trails and offers opportunities for bathing, swimming and relaxing. At the Petersdorf bathing area on Lübbesee, in an inhabited part of the municipality of Milmersdorf, there is a jetty, a small bathing access point, a large sunbathing lawn and a car park. This makes it possible to distinguish between a lake accessible via hiking trails and a bathing area with specifically listed facilities. As facilities may change, check before your visit.
Museums in Pinnow
Pinnow is home to two museums with distinct themes: a root museum featuring root-art works created by an artist is located in a distillery; a museum of agriculture has been set up in the granary under the motto “Nature and History.” If you are mainly looking for unusual materials and artistic design in your cultural explorations, the root museum offers a different focus from the agricultural museum and its motto, “Nature and History.” Their respective premises also distinguish the two museums.
If you plan to visit either museum, check current visitor information in advance.
Views from Richterberg
A notice from 2024 stated that the ascent to the Richterberg viewpoint in Stützkow had been renovated. It also described a magnificent view of the floodplain landscape of the Lower Oder Valley. If you plan to visit the viewpoint, check current access information in advance.
First decide which of these experiences should shape your stay; this will help you focus your holiday-apartment search on a specific type of holiday.
