Nordwestuckermark offers a variety of nature and history experiences: the lake near Naugarten, the 55-kilometre “Trail of Stones” cycle route, which runs mostly along a former railway embankment through the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park, and medieval buildings in Fürstenwerder. You can plan your stay around whether you would rather spend time by the water, explore on foot or by bike, or learn about local history.

Lake, Trails and Art in Naugarten

The lake near Naugarten, which is owned by the municipality, covers about 33 hectares. It is ideal for swimming and fishing, and walking around the lake is another way to enjoy nature. Naugarten has bicycle and boat rentals. If you prefer to get around on land, you’ll find signposted, natural cycling and hiking trails. They offer everything from short walks to longer excursions, including guided tours to notable sites. This lets you choose between a brief outing and a longer day outdoors, with different ways to explore.

Another place to visit in Naugarten is Hof Kokurin. Its gallery displays a constantly changing collection of paintings, wooden sculptures and small works of art. A visit offers a cultural counterpoint to activities by the lake and on the trails. If you enjoy variety, you can make time for the water, outdoor activities and art as separate highlights of your trip.

Cycling and Hiking Routes with Different Itineraries

The “Uckermark Circular Trail” connects Angermünde, Templin and Prenzlau. Coming from Boitzenburg, the hiking trail passes through Naugarten and continues towards Gollmitz. This makes it easy to distinguish a longer route connecting several places from a walk on local trails when planning your trip.

For a longer bike ride, consider the 55-kilometre “Trail of Stones”. It runs mostly along a former railway embankment through the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park, from Templin via Warthe and Boitzenburg to Fürstenwerder. The route’s length and former railway embankment are useful reference points if you’d like to include a longer cycle ride in your stay. Fürstenwerder also has a promenade, laid out in 1900, that loops around the town wall beneath old chestnut trees.

Fieldstone and History in Fürstenwerder and Wittstock

The historic centre of Fürstenwerder is enclosed by a fieldstone wall about 1,300 metres long. The town gates, Berliner Tor and Woldegker Tor, have pointed-arch passageways and are among the oldest of their kind in northern Germany. Fürstenwerder’s fieldstone church also dates from the mid-13th century. The local history museum in Fürstenwerder focuses mainly on traditional village crafts.

Between Wittstock and Rittgarten, at the side of the road to Augustfelde, stands the ruin of Wüsten Church in Wittstock. The rectangular fieldstone building with its rectangular west tower dates from the 13th century. The lower part of the tower and sections of the surrounding walls of the nave remain. This makes the site particularly interesting for anyone interested in medieval architecture and surviving historic structures.

Cultural events also play a part in the region: Kröchlendorff Castle Church serves as a cultural and event centre for the municipality. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Nordwestuckermark, the experiences that matter most to you can help you choose where to stay—whether that’s time by Lake Naugarten, cycling and hiking tours, or historic discoveries in Fürstenwerder and Wittstock.

You can also consider Röpersdorf, Parmen and Gollmitz as you explore further.
