A notable starting point for discovering Villedieu-sur-Indre is the parish church of Saint-Sébastien. It was founded in the 11th century and preserves a trefoil-shaped chancel, a large transept, and a single-nave design.

Culture

Other historical landmarks include the ruins of the Château de Villedieu-sur-Indre. They were built in the 11th century by the first lords of Déols and Châteauroux. The Château de Villedieu-sur-Indre belonged, among others, to Francis I.

Nature

The Golf du Val de l’Indre is an 18-hole, par-72 course measuring 6,132 m on the banks of the Trégonce, among centuries-old cedars and oaks in the former park of the Château de Villedieu-sur-Indre. 440 species have been recorded at Golf Val de l’Indre, including 304 plant species and 136 animal species. The facility has received the bronze distinction of the “Golf pour la biodiversité” label.

The Prairie de Mehun is a five-hectare refuge for biodiversity.

Local life

The Villedieu-sur-Indre market takes place on Wednesday mornings on Rue Jean Jaurès. Products on offer include fruit, vegetables, chicken, fish, meat, honey, cheese, strawberries, and clothing.

At the Marchés Gourmands du Berry, visitors could put together their own dinner while sampling local produce and Berry specialities. The programme included a date in Villedieu-sur-Indre on 26 June, in the public garden on Rue Jean-Jaurès.

The annual Brocante Annuelle, organised by U.S. Villedieu Football, took place on Sunday, 14 April 2024, at Place Jean Paul Thibault near the church. The sale of plants was open to professionals, amateurs, and collectors.

The media library in the centre of Villedieu-sur-Indre welcomes visitors and offers numerous events and exhibitions throughout the year.
