Bélâbre: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Vieux Pont de Bélâbre is a very old, picturesque bridge with a humped roadway, numerous arches of different shapes, and parapets made of oak planks.
Culture
The “Mémoire de rues” cultural trail uses 18 reproductions of historical postcards, each accompanied by explanatory texts based on archives and local memory. Using these reproductions, the trail leads through the streets and contrasts Bélâbre at the beginning of the 20th century with Bélâbre today.
The Église de Nesmes also forms part of the historical context. It is at least as old as its neighbouring church in Jovard; it was probably not rebuilt since the time when Pierre II, Bishop of Poitiers, donated it to the Benedictines of Saint-Savin in 1092.
Nature and Trails
The “Les bords de l'Anglin n°22” hiking route is 7.5 km long and marked in blue. It starts at the Bélâbre Tourist Information Office and at the entrance to the campsite.
Its route passes along sunken lanes and riverbanks. Along the way, it passes former mill races, forges, and mills.
The Bélâbre Tourist Information Office is also the starting point for two hiking routes and one cycling route.
History in the Surrounding Area
The area around Bélâbre is home to the historic site of Prieuré d'Aigues-Joignant and the ruins of Abbaye Notre-Dame de la Colombe. Further afield in the region are the Abbaye de Saint-Savin monastery and Mont Saint-Savin hill.
