Francueil: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Francueil is a wine-growing municipality and a stage on the Touraine Wine Route. The “Les vallons de Francueil” route passes through a landscape of meadows, forests and vineyards. It is 11 km long, takes around 3 hours and has a moderate level of difficulty.

Hiking through the countryside

The “Les vallons de Francueil” hike begins at Place de Juchepies. The route follows a country lane to a panoramic viewpoint over the Cher Valley and also includes a short out-and-back section to Château des Coudraies.

Culture and history

The Church of Saint-Thibault dates partly from the 11th century and was remodelled in the 15th, 16th and 18th centuries. Parts of its Romanesque southern wall and the southern round-arched doorway of the nave have been preserved. Inside are a 15th-century chapel dedicated to Sainte Barbe, a 16th-century statue of Sainte Barbe and a 17th-century statue of Saint Thibaut. The Church of Saint-Thibault is listed as a historic monument; three statues are also listed: Sainte Barbe, Saint Thibault and the Virgin and Child.

The former presbytery next to the church in Francueil dates from the 15th century. Beside it stands a 19th-century Puits-chapelle with a wooden wheel. Its stone round-arched vault reduces evaporation and helps prevent leaves from contaminating the water. Around ten vineyard huts have been preserved in the countryside; they served winemakers as accommodation for the working day. Château des Ouldes dates from the 11th century and was remodelled after a fire in the 16th century. Around 15 Puits-chapelles in Francueil are directly accessible from public land, three of which have recently been renovated. The Moulin Neuf was converted into a manor house in the 19th century.

Nature at the municipal pond

The municipal pond is open to walkers. Access is via the footbridge on the western side, from Route de la Bondonnière. Swimming is prohibited in the municipal pond; vehicles are also not permitted access.
