Discover Issoudun: Culture, Landscape and Holiday Rentals
Issoudun between urban history and landscape
The Musée de l'Hospice Saint-Roch, Tour Blanche and Église Saint-Cyr give Issoudun distinct historical features. At the same time, Parc Flore Brazier leads into a landscape-oriented side of Issoudun.
The Musée de l'Hospice Saint-Roch has carried the designation “Musée de France” under French cultural heritage law since 2 August 2002. Its collections, covering more than 2,000 m², are divided into four thematic areas: ancient sculpture, pharmacy, non-European art and contemporary art. The museum also includes a 17th-century apothecary shop with wood panelling and 379 faience vessels. The 379 faience vessels and the wood panelling give the apothecary shop a distinct character within the museum in Issoudun. Culture enthusiasts can focus on different aspects there, moving between the collections and the apothecary shop.
Tour Blanche and Église Saint-Cyr
Tour Blanche is a medieval keep in the heart of the city of Issoudun. From there, visitors can enjoy a panorama of the city, Parc François-Mitterrand and the surrounding landscape. Tour Blanche uses contemporary scenography that evokes its history. The keep thus combines medieval architecture with a contemporary approach to presenting history.
The Église Saint-Cyr is the only surviving one of Issoudun’s former churches and a valuable testament to local history. Above the entrance, it houses Jean Boucher’s 1625 painting “Descente de Croix”.
Green spaces and a cycling route
Parc Flore Brazier is a wooded former private garden covering one hectare, which the city acquired in 2019. It stretches from Allée de Frapesle to the Théols and is bordered by the two small tributaries, Tournemine and Vignole. The watercourses mark the spatial boundaries of the former garden.
The Boucle Honoré is a 9.2 km cycling route in Issoudun that is suitable for all types of bicycles. For planning the day, the fixed distance provides a clear framework; at the same time, the choice of bicycle remains open. In Issoudun, the route can be included as a separate cycling section alongside the museum, keep and church.
