Rivarennes: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Rivarennes is located in the Parc naturel régional de la Brenne. The Creuse flows through the town, whose centre lies on the left bank of the river.

Landscape

The Bois du ruisseau des Chézeaux is a type 1 ZNIEFF, encompasses Rivarennes and covers 430.42 hectares. This area includes acid-loving forests on the plateau, lime-loving forests on the slopes, and the trout-filled Ruisseau des Chézeaux as far as its confluence with the Creuse. Rare plants such as Carex digitata, Hordelymus europaeus and the Turk’s cap lily (Lilium martagon) can be found there.

At the Plan d'eau des Champbons, there is a CRAPA fitness trail as well as tables and benches. The Prairie des Sécherins is equipped with wooden furniture and offers views of the Creuse; there is a car park nearby.

Trails

The Voie verte de Rivarennes is a former railway line that has been converted into a route along the Creuse reserved for cyclists and pedestrians. Numerous picnic tables and benches are available along the Voie verte.

The “Du sable au roc n°51” hiking trail is 6.5 kilometres long, marked in blue and takes around 1 hour and 40 minutes. The “Tapis de fleurs par monts et par vaux n°10” hiking trail is 7.5 kilometres long, marked in blue and takes around 2 hours. The “Du sable au roc” hiking trail initially follows the Creuse over sandy ground before ascending along a rocky path through woodland and across former vineyard land.

Culture

The Church of Saint-Denis in Rivarennes is a 12th-century building. Its Romanesque original structure retains a richly sculpted apse and an apsidiole, both adorned with modillions. By decree of 26 January 1927, the church was listed as a historic monument. It is open practically every day; documents on its history are available for visitors.

The Camp du Gourde is an earthwork enclosure dating from the end of the Iron Age, covering almost two hectares and overlooking the entire Creuse valley from a cliff. The Mont calvaire d’Usseau was inaugurated in 1937 on a steep slope in the Creuse valley. The Château de la Tour in Rivarennes is a 14th-century building. The fountain located in the Lavoir des Chézeaux has been documented since the Middle Ages and has been visited ever since.
