Veuil: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château de Veuil was added to the supplementary inventory of historic monuments in 1927. The Church of Saint-Pierre houses a bell protected as a historic object. The village’s heritage also includes traditional tuffeau stone houses; a sundial is located on the gable of Veuil’s town hall.

Culture and History

Veuil had a flourishing cloth industry in the 17th and 18th centuries. Another historical testament is the communal oven in Le Bas-Ray, which dates from the 18th century and is freely accessible.

From July to the end of August, the “Art Grandeur Nature” exhibition presents contemporary art in the streets of Veuil and in the Church of Saint-Pierre. A guided tour of the village is possible by prior reservation. Veuil has also been awarded “4 Flowers” in France’s competition for flower-filled villages.

Nature and Trails

The 90-kilometre-long Sentier Benjamin Rabier passes through Veuil as well as natural heritage sites and landscapes associated with the illustrator Benjamin Rabier. From Veuil, the trail offers circular routes of 5 to 10 kilometres.

Cuisine

A farm visit is possible at GAEC Ferme de la Fringale; it offers a visit to the goat farm with wine and cheese tasting. GAEC Ferme de la Fringale also produces goat’s cheese with the Valençay and Selles-sur-Cher AOP designations.

GAEC Le Cabrioray produces traditional goat’s cheese and specialities such as Biquembert, Tomme nature, wild garlic cheese, and goat’s cheese raclette. The farm keeps 90 goats in a family-run operation on pasture and offers farm tours and tastings.

Events

The Soirée aux chandelles in Veuil was scheduled for the first Wednesday in August. The discovery rally “Pas à pas autour de Veuil” was scheduled for the third Saturday in July.
