Culture and History

The Abbey of Notre-Dame de Déols was founded in 917 by Ebbes de Déols. Its lapidary museum preserves sculpted capitals and stone fragments from the abbey. Visitors can also use the 3DÉOLS augmented reality application to explore the abbey ruins digitally.

The Rue du Pont-Perrin features several 16th-century merchants’ houses with oriel windows or window openings spanned by arches. The Porte du Pont-Perrin, a medieval gate built in the 15th century that leads to the Indre, also stands there.

The Église Saint-Étienne has been listed as a historic monument since 21 October 1947. Beneath its choir is a limestone tomb attributed to Saint-Léocade, as well as the tomb of his son Saint-Ludre, decorated with impressive hunting scenes.

The Maison départementale de la mémoire militaire is housed in a former building. It once accommodated a Franco-American liaison mission as well as master craftsmen, including a tailor and a shoemaker.

Culinary Delights

The Marché gourmand du Berry takes place every summer on Fridays in July in Déols, in the Parc de l’Abbaye. Visitors can put together their own meal from regional products supplied by local producers, talk to the producers and sample specialities from Berry.

Nature and Trails

The Écoparc des Chènevières is a 22-hectare educational nature area on flood-prone meadows at the confluence of the Indre and Ringoire rivers. The site has a four-kilometre walking trail. A discovery trail created by the town of Déols, with several information stations, crosses the Écoparc des Chènevières.
