Verneuil-sur-Igneraie: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

An unusual testimony to the local history is Le four couché: it is the only surviving kiln of its kind in Verneuil-sur-Igneraie and dates from the 19th century. The kiln is privately owned and can be viewed from the outside from the road via a short 50 m return walk.

Culture and History

In 1830, Baroness Aurore Dudevant, later known as George Sand, met Jules Sandeau at the Le Petit Coudray manor house. The fortified manor house dates from the 14th century; one of its façades was remodelled in the 19th century.

The historic site of Abbaye Notre-Dame de Varennes is located in the vicinity of Verneuil-sur-Igneraie. The wider surrounding region is home to the historic site of Abbaye Bois-d'Habert, the Basilique Saint-Étienne de Neuvy-Saint-Sépulchre church and the historic site of Abbaye des Pierres.

Hiking

The very easy hiking trail “Au fil des talus gourmands” is 5.5 km long and has a stated duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes. The hiking trail is available via the Cirkwi app for Android and iPhone, as a PDF or from the Office de Tourisme du Pays de George Sand in La Châtre.

The Circuit pédestre n°69 hiking trail starts and ends in Verneuil-sur-Igneraie and runs through a preserved landscape where rivers and hedges meet.

Cycling

Circuit cyclo n°3 is an unmarked circular cycling route along small roads with little traffic. Another circular cycling route goes via Nohant, Saint-Chartier and Verneuil-sur-Igneraie back to Nohant.
