Baudres: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Baudres combines a hilly, wooded and green landscape with signposted trails and a church whose history dates back to the Middle Ages. The village is located on the D956 departmental road between Blois and Châteauroux.

Nature and Trails

Baudres has 44 kilometres of greenways. Of these, 30 kilometres are accessible on foot or by mountain bike. A blue-marked hiking trail is 5 kilometres long; the walking time is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. La Moinerie offers panoramic views over the Céphons valley.

Water Landscape

The Nichat rises within the municipality of Baudres and is classified as a first-category watercourse. The landscape also includes the Étang des Princes, a pond created by the municipality of Baudres on the D956. There are picnic areas as well as shaded areas with fishing spots.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Martial in Baudres is a Romanesque building dating from the 12th century. It is documented in 1115 as a church dependent on Déols Abbey. Its nave ends in a flat apse; the bell tower is a square tower with a chapel at its base. In 1819, Saint-Martial became the parish church.

Individual details also make the church noteworthy: the oldest bell is the Balzème bell, also known as the “hail bell”, and is thought to date from around the 13th or 14th century. A graffiti inscription in the church was listed as a protected object on 13 June 1989.

Festivals and Local Traditions

The Association d'Animation de Baudres organises a festival on the first weekend of June, featuring entertainment, a meal and a torchlight procession. The festival begins with a flea market; there is also a farmers' market and fairground attractions.
