The Château d’Azay-le-Ferron is a Musée de France with collections of decorative arts, fine arts and natural sciences.

Culture and History

The main construction phase of the Église Saint-Nazaire took place in the 12th century. The Église Saint-Nazaire was listed as a Monument historique by decree of 5 July 1927.

The wider region around Azay-le-Ferron is home to the historic site of Abbaye Notre-Dame de la Merci-Dieu, the historic site of Ancien couvent des Augustins de Paulmy, the historic site of Abbaye de Beaugerais and the historic site of Pyramide de Saint-Hubert.

Nature and Trails

Azay-le-Ferron is part of the Parc naturel régional de la Brenne. In the grounds of the Château d’Azay-le-Ferron, the Circuit de l’arbre provides botanical knowledge and leads to remarkable trees such as cedars, sequoias and arborvitae.

The circular trail “Le château et ses demoiselles n°9” is a 4 km hiking route. It starts at the church square opposite the Château d’Azay-le-Ferron, leads into the château grounds and is accessible only during the château’s opening hours; admission is charged.

Fishing is permitted and free of charge at Étang Ribaloche in the Tours-Preuilly forest. Parc de Boussay is located in the vicinity of Azay-le-Ferron.

Culinary Delights

By reservation, Ferme du Caroire offers breakfast, an aperitif and dinner at the farm. The range includes farm-produced goat’s cheese, goat and kid meat, prepared dishes, terrines and rillettes, sausages and Jersey beef.
