Chaillac: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Chaillac combines a mineralogy museum with protected cultural monuments. Between historic buildings, the Anglin and the municipal lake of Rochegaudon, a diverse picture of the town emerges.
Getting around
The network of paths in the municipality of Chaillac covers 100 km and can be explored on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. Chaillac can be reached via the A20 between Châteauroux and Limoges, exit 20; then follow the signs towards Saint-Benoît-du-Sault and Montmorillon.
Culture and history
The mineralogy museum of Chaillac compares fluorite and barite from Chaillac with examples from other French and international deposits. These include deposits from the French Massif Central and the Cévennes, from Asturias and Morocco, as well as from the Mississippi region in the United States.
The Vestiges du château de Brosse are located in Brosse in Chaillac and are protected as a historic monument; they were registered by decree dated 11 March 1935. The remains preserve a gate with a postern, part of a polygonal tower, a well with a well rim and remnants of the walls of the former fortress.
The Église Saint-Pierre is also protected as a historic monument by decree dated 16 June 1989. Its nave is Romanesque and was built at the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century; the transept and choir were added around 1500. The church also contains four statues protected as movable cultural property: the Vierge à l'Enfant, Saint Sébastien, the Vierge de calvaire and the Christ en croix. They were registered on 26 January 1995.
Nature
The Moulin de Seillant offers educational programmes, events and courses for the preservation and enhancement of cultural heritage and landscapes. It is located on the banks of the Anglin, belongs to the network of Espaces Naturels Sensibles and the Natura 2000 network, and is a defining element of the local natural and architectural heritage.
Lake and leisure
There is supervised swimming at the municipal lake of Rochegaudon in July and August. Fishing and pétanque are also possible there; a play area is available for small children.
The overview of nearby towns also includes Néons-Sur-Creuse, Concremiers, Tendu, Reuilly, Badecon-Le-Pin, Celon, Giroux and Lye.
