Lye: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Lye combines a distinctive hiking trail with remarkable examples of sacred art and a local history closely associated with Benjamin Rabier. The 90-kilometre Sentier Découverte Benjamin Rabier, a GR-de-Pays hiking trail, passes through the village. It includes a treasure hunt with hidden boxes in each of the communities along the route; a free companion mobile app is also available in French and English.

Hiking and Landscape

The Modon Valley can be explored along the signposted hiking trails from Lye. This directly links the landscape with the village’s network of paths and with the Sentier Découverte Benjamin Rabier, which passes through Lye along its 90-kilometre route.

Culture and History

The Church of Notre-Dame has a Romanesque apse, Gothic features dating from the 16th century, and uncovered Gothic wall paintings in the nave and on the base of the bell tower. It has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 14 April 1998; its apse has been protected as a historic monument since 7 July 1952.

The Croix de Lye is also one of the village’s notable historical landmarks. The champlevé-enamelled processional cross bears an engraving on the reverse and has been protected as a historic monument since 6 November 1995. In France, nine completely preserved solid crosses are recorded, including the Croix de Lye; worldwide, 29 such crosses are recorded.

Benjamin Rabier is also connected with the local history on a personal level: he had a second home in Lye for 18 years and bought a house there near the church in 1911.
