Nature

The landscape of Martinice u Onšova includes permanent grassland, arable land and forest areas. A large population of bullhead (Cottus gobio) lives along a very long section of the Martinický potok stream.

Culture and history

The historical name “Bílé Martinice” is recorded for Martinice u Onšova; the first mention dates back to the pre-Hussite period. Mikuláš Rubáš z Hrádku is mentioned for the years 1440 to 1450; after him, the village was also called “Rubášovy Martinice”.

The Kaplička U kněžny chapel is the only surviving historical monument in Martinice u Onšova. The Martinický mlýn mill is a remarkable historic mill complex from the 18th century below the dam of the Martinický rybník pond. The Martinický mlýn complex includes a single-storey timber-framed granary, an outstanding monument of rural architecture and one of the last examples of its kind in the region.

The romantic footage for the 1978 film “Jak dostat tatínka do polepšovny” was shot in the surroundings of Martinice u Onšova in the Pelhřimov area.
