Obrataň: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Obrataň is home to a narrow-gauge railway built in 1906, historic buildings and several routes. The line to Jindřichův Hradec is 46 km long and has a track gauge of 760 mm. The narrow-gauge railway is a tourist attraction and also serves regular transport. At Sudkův Důl station, there is a romantically situated forest stop on the narrow-gauge railway.

Activities

The Obrataňské okruhy comprise circular routes of 10 km, 20 km and 35 km; each starts and ends in Obrataň. Cycle Route 1185 from Černovice to Pacov also passes through the town. The area around Obrataň is suitable for hiking and cycling, as well as cross-country skiing in winter. The Obrataňské okruhy are also a traditional Easter walking event.

Culture

The single-nave Early Gothic Church of St Peter and St Paul in Obrataň dates from the late 13th century. It was formerly called the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and was founded in 1384 on a rise in the middle of the village square. Near the church stands the T. G. Masaryk monument in Obrataň, created by the Tábor sculptor Jan Vítězslav Dušek.

Obrataň is also home to a small Neoclassical chapel with a bell turret, built around 1800. The wooden granary dates from the late 18th century and is one of the last surviving examples of timber-framed vernacular architecture in the region. Nearby, in the settlement of Dvořiště, there is a museum of insulators and lightning conductors. It is located in a former mill, 2.5 km from Obrataň and on Cycle Route 1185.

Nature

The U Bezděčína natural monument lies within the cadastral area of Obrataň. It protects a spring structure and a stream floodplain with specially protected species.

Nearby, the Josafatské Valley stretches for approximately 8 km along the Bělá stream and connects Sudkův Důl, Bezděčín and Údolí. The ruins of the small Údolský hrádek fortress, dating from the 14th century, rise above a pond in the Josafatské Valley. In the wider municipal area, the Rašeliniště u Vintířova natural monument protects a complex of spring, peat bog, wet meadow and purple moor-grass meadow communities with woody plants and specially protected species.
