Křelovice is situated in an area characterised by coniferous forests and features a village layout combining historic buildings, memorial stones and an elliptical plan.
Nature and Trails
Křelovice lies less than one kilometre from the left bank of the Trnávka River. The municipality describes the village as a suitable starting point for walks through the forests, where blueberries and mushrooms can be collected.
Křelovice is predominantly surrounded by coniferous forests, 131 hectares of which are directly owned by the municipality of Křelovice. Reservoirs described by the municipality as bathing destinations are located about two kilometres from Křelovice.
Marked paths and routes also pass through the village: the blue-marked historic trail between Červená Řečice and Pelhřimov continues through Křelovice to Košetice. Cycle Route 161 runs through Křelovice between Želiv and Senožaty and continues via Onšov and Košetice.
Village Layout and History
Křelovice has a completely elliptical village plan, known as an Okrouhlice, which is considered the oldest type of Slavic village. In 1379, Křelovice was recorded as having 40 residents and an area of 24 lánů; this made the municipality the second-largest in area among the villages of the Červená Řečice estate.
Buildings and Memorial Sites
The Stará pošta building complex in Křelovice, house no. 26, was extended in 1856 by a long wing with vaulted stables. The Sýpka in Křelovice, house no. 1, is a plastered, two-storey granary with a rectangular plan and a gabled roof, and forms part of the buildings of an agricultural farm.
A damaged granite stone by the central pond in Křelovice is said to commemorate a tavern dispute that ended in a death. A stone memorial at the northeastern edge of Křelovice, on the road to Senožaty, bears a raised relief of a paw cross.
The Dva smírčí kříže site in Křelovice comprises two sandstone reconciliation crosses, probably of medieval origin. Only one of the crosses remains at the site; it bears an engraving depicting a crossbow or a sword. A statue of the Virgin Mary dating from 1901 stands in front of the chapel in Křelovice.
Traditions and Other Village Pages
The Křelovický masopust was announced as a traditional carnival featuring a masked gathering from 9 a.m., a procession from 10 a.m. on Saturday, 14 February 2026, and an evening programme afterwards at the cultural centre.
