Velká Chyška: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Velká Chyška combines ecclesiastical architectural history with rural farm architecture. In the Church of Saint John the Baptist, a Neo-Romanesque building dating from 1898, a Renaissance tombstone from 1578 is set into the outer southern wall of the presbytery. The stone comes from the former church.

Culture and History

The villagescape also includes the polychrome stone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the late 19th century. It stands on an elaborately articulated Baroque pedestal dating from 1742.

At the eastern edge of the village square stands a Neoclassical rural farmhouse, originally with a closed four-sided layout. It comprises a single-storey residential building with a valuable stucco façade and adjoining farm wings. In the southeastern part of the village square is a large Baroque farm complex that once belonged to Strahov Monastery. It includes a residential building with a triangular Baroque gable and stucco decoration. A low connecting passage links this residential building with a large granary whose gable façade is particularly massive.

Villagescape and Landscape

A road runs through Velká Chyška and divides the village into two parts. Near Velká Chyška lies Stražiště Hill, at an elevation of 744 metres. The nearby area also includes Duškův vrch [Velká Chyška] and Chyška [Velká Chyška] hills.

In the nearby area is Svatý Jan, a church. The Želivský Kláštor Monastery and Vrchy Mountain are located in the surrounding area. In the wider regional vicinity are Orlov Mountain, the Orlík Ruins, and the Church of Saint Anne.
