Útěchovice Pod Stražištěm: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Útěchovice pod Stražištěm lies on the southeastern slope of the 744-metre-high Stražiště hill. The village is situated in a landscape of rolling hills, dense forests and ponds – an environment where nature, regional history and traditional customs exist closely side by side.

Nature

The signposted local cycle route 1217 between Pacov and Vyklantice passes through the municipality. For cycling tourism, it runs there along road III/12813. Kamenný vrch viewpoint lies to the right of the road to Vyklantice, offering views of Pacov, Leskovice and Javořice. Nature activities in Útěchovice pod Stražištěm also include mushroom-picking walks.

History

The first written mention of Útěchovice pod Stražištěm dates from the 1410 land register of Strahov Monastery. The local Hájovna is also one of the municipality’s sights. It was the birthplace of theatre director Jiří Frejka, who founded the Osvobozené divadlo together with Jindřich Honzl in 1920.

Culture

Myslivna No. 41 on the northern edge of the municipality is registered as an immovable cultural monument. It is the birthplace of the Czech director and theatre scholar Jiří Frejka; a commemorative plaque on its façade recalls this. The Myslivna complex includes adjoining farm buildings and is associated with theatre director and theorist Jiří Frejka. The forestry building was remodelled in 1895 and has eclectic façades with vertically boarded gables.

Near the southeastern edge of the municipality lie the remains of the old Smolína Castle, also known as Pechburg. Southeast of the municipality, by a stream, stands the Smrčinský Mill No. 20, regarded as a locally architecturally valuable building.

The Baroque chapel in the lower part of the village is well maintained; its bell rings twice a day. The Baroque Chapel of St John the Baptist was built in the 18th century on the southwestern slope of Stražiště hill, by a spring. The site of the Chapel of St John the Baptist was formerly a destination for religious pilgrimages.

Traditions

A traditional Shrovetide procession is held in the municipality. A pilgrimage is also held there.
