Mnich: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Church of St. John the Baptist in Mnich is documented as early as 1359 and became a parish church in 1371. Several heavily damaged marble tomb slabs from historical burials have been preserved inside.

History

A castle once stood on the site of today’s Mnich, fortified by walls, ramparts and a moat. The local former fortress was restored in 1762 for use as a parish house.

Culture

The cultural centre in Mnich was declared a cultural monument in the last quarter of 2020. It was built between 1948 and 1950 based on a design by Jiří Kroha. Its design features textured render with horizontal grooves and brick chips; the façades bear a figurative relief of a farming family and a coloured silhouette of a double bass.

MonAmour is dedicated exclusively to one-person theatre. The MonAmour theatre ensemble considers Mnich its home venue. The event “Fotbal & Country Mnich” is on the calendar for 2025 and 2026.

Remembrance

The Památník slovanského bratrství monument commemorates 1,842 fallen soldiers and partisans in South Bohemia and is registered as a protected cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 32225/3–3155. It consists of a bronze group depicting a dying Czechoslovak partisan assisted by two armed Red Army soldiers, as well as a granite obelisk.

The Second World War memorial plaque on the house at Mnich 23 commemorates an unequal fight during the night of 5–6 May 1945 between Czech and Soviet partisans and an SS unit. The memorial to František Čábelka stands at Mnich 23 and commemorates his death on 6 May 1945. In the centre of Mnich stands the memorial to those who fell in the First World War; it bears the dedication “PADLÝM SYNŮM VLASTI 1914–1918”.

Nature and Surroundings

The area of the Stržená hráz natural monument in the surroundings of Mnich contains a preserved complex of meadow and wetland communities with occurrences of important and specially protected species. It can be reached on foot or by bicycle from Rosička or Nový Mnich. The cycling route leads via Rosička and Nový Mnich; before the crossroads, it branches onto an unmarked path.

Public bus route 359920 connects Pacov, Černovice, Mnich and Jindřichův Hradec; the timetable is valid from 1 July to 1 August 2026.
