The valley of the Martinický potok near Syrov is characterized by a landscape with deeply incised valleys. Syrov is situated in a rural, varied landscape comprising fields, meadows, pastures, and wooded areas.

Nature and Landscape

Syrov’s public network of local roads, footpaths, and cycle paths through the open countryside is maintained and remains accessible. The Šanořín hill is located nearby, while Mount Melechov lies in the vicinity of Syrov. In the wider regional area are Mount Špičák and Mount Ostojovka.

The Martinický potok is also one of the area’s distinctive landscape features: a numerous population of European bullhead (Cottus gobio) can be found along a very long section of the watercourse.

Culture and History

The Želivský Kláštor monastery, the Church of Svatý Jan, and the Church of Svatá Anna are located in the vicinity of Syrov. The Orlík ruins lie in the wider regional area.

The former Syrovský Mlýn is located on the road from Senožaty to Syrov in the valley of the Martinický potok and has been documented in records since 1736.

Getting Around

Cycle Route 161 leads to Syrov. One cycling tour lists the chapel on Syrov’s village square as a stop; during this cycling tour, a break is taken above Syrov, offering views of the surrounding landscape.
