The Hůra hill rises above Onšov and, at 544 m above sea level, forms a prominent feature of the landscape. A Baroque château stands on the hilltop to the west, above the stream and the valley in which Onšov is situated.
Culture and History
The Baroque château was built from 1738 and completed in 1787 after an interruption; today it serves as a retirement home. The Church of Saint Martin in Onšov also points to a long history: the originally Romanesque church is probably connected with a former fortress and presumably dates from the first half of the 13th century.
A granite cross stands in the cemetery of Onšov’s Church of Saint Martin. A chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary is also located in the surrounding wall of the cemetery grounds.
Landscape
The summit of Hůra can be reached from Onšov via a forest path and offers a view of the valley below the hill. On Hůra hill above Onšov, there is also a cross with a plaque providing information about the former Church of the Transfiguration, which was demolished in 1818.
Events
A cycling and tourism event held repeatedly is “Kolem dokola Košeticka”. In its 8th edition, on 26 August 2023, it passed through Onšov; a starting point and a refreshment point were located there. At the event on 26 August 2023, a refreshment station serving drinks and food was open at the Onšov fire station.
The Pálení čarodějnic festival was held repeatedly in Onšov on 30 April, namely in 2023, 2025 and 2026.
