Nova Cerekev: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nová Cerekev can be explored through specific buildings, protected landscapes and a route through small villages. The history of the town ranges from Jewish and ecclesiastical architecture through railway technology to preserved farming structures.

Culture and History

The railway and pumping-station complex in Nová Cerekev was built in the 1880s according to a design by the architect Friedrich Setz. It comprises a water tower and a separate pumping station that supplied steam locomotives with water. Nová Cerekev railway station is located on railway line 224 between Tábor and Horní Cerekev; the line continues to Jihlava.

The Nová Cerekev Synagogue was built in 1855 in the Neo-Romanesque style with Oriental elements. Its rooms house the permanent exhibition “Architektura synagog v českých zemích”. The town’s Jewish heritage also includes the old Jewish cemetery, which was established before 1690. The oldest gravestone there dates from 1692.

The Church of Saint Thomas Becket of Canterbury was built between 1750 and 1760 in the Baroque style. It stands on the site of an earlier Gothic church building, of which only the tower has survived.

Nature and Landscape

The Rašelinná louka u Proseče-Obořiště natural monument is located in the Vysočina Region, in the Pelhřimov District, within the municipality of Nová Cerekev, specifically in the cadastral areas of Částkovice and Myslov. It protects spring fens, spring areas, wet meadows and marshy meadows with specially protected and characteristic species.

Another distinctive feature is the Havlíčkův dub oak. The oak is at least 300 years old and has a trunk circumference of 650 centimetres. It grows in the listed park of Proseč-Obořiště Castle, a part of the municipality of Nová Cerekev.

Village Structures and Cycling Route

In the Stanovice district of the municipality of Nová Cerekev, original farmsteads have been preserved around a circular village square. The Pachtův špejchar granary is also located there and currently houses an agricultural museum. The two-storey 16th-century building has sgraffito façades and is registered as a cultural monument.

The “Okolo mlýna k synagoze” route is suitable for mountain biking on the terrain. It leads through nature and small villages to the unique Jewish synagogue in Nová Cerekev, which is considered the only surviving synagogue of its kind in Central Europe.
