Kaliště U Humpolce: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kaliště u Humpolce lies on a plateau at an altitude of 601 metres above sea level. From the surroundings of Kaliště, views stretch across the Vysočina and Central Bohemia regions as far as Blaník. The cadastral area also forms a watershed between the Želivka and Sázava rivers.

Culture and Music

The existence of Kostel sv. Jana Křtitele in Kaliště has been documented since 1350; at that time, the church was already a parish church. The present church was built between 1805 and 1812 in the Late Baroque style. The church contains a valuable stone baptismal font from the 15th century. Kostel sv. Jana Křtitele on Kaliště village square is registered in the ÚSKP as an immovable cultural monument.

The birthplace of Gustav Mahler is also part of the village’s cultural profile. It features a music hall where concerts and international master classes in singing, piano and the interpretation of contemporary music are held. Access to the available part of the birthplace must be arranged in advance.

Trails and Landscape

The Gustav Mahler Trail begins in Kaliště u Humpolce and runs via Speřice, across the D1 motorway, through Lhotice, Lískovice and Vřesník to Želiv. It follows a green-marked hiking route and is approximately 15 km long.

For cyclists, Cycle Route 1211 runs from Proseč via Kaliště and Holušice towards Speřice and onwards. In winter, the “Severozápadní okruh z Humpolce kolem Kališť” circuit passes through Kaliště.

The Rybník Pařez Nature Reserve protects a group of aquatic and wetland ecosystems with numerous specially protected species.

Events and Cuisine

The Jezdecký klub Trio Kaliště equestrian club organises the Hubertova jízda every autumn, ending in the evening with a dance event. The Sportovní klub Gustava Mahlera Kaliště organises the traditional Kaliště Open tennis tournament.

The FolKaliště Festival gives up-and-coming musicians, not only young ones, an opportunity to perform every year. The FolKaliště festival grounds can be reached from Kaliště via a marked, 1 km-long downhill footpath.

The restaurant at the Mahler Penzion in Kaliště serves classic Czech cuisine and international specialities.
