Around Knížata, the Koblížek forest, pond and a discovery story come together.

Natural Area

The Koblížek pond lies below the settlement in the forest of the same name near Knížata, close to Těmice. The Drahoňovský stream flows below its dam.

There are wetland communities at the pond: freshwater reed beds and tall sedges grow along its banks. They transition into a fen and a wet area covered with woody vegetation, with wet meadows. Koblížek is an existing, functional local biocentre embedded in a supra-regional biocorridor. The biocentre includes a small pond next to a cabbage thistle meadow.

A botanical discovery site is recorded southeast of Knížata near Koblížek.

Forest and Path

The Koblížek forest can be explored on foot along a paved path through a shady woodland landscape. It is located near a forest road of the same name.

The History of the Discovery

The Koblížek discovery near Knížata dates back to 1922: on 23 May, Matěj Kadlec found 20 gold coins while digging up tree stumps in the Koblížek forest. After Matěj Kadlec reported the discovery, the gendarmes found a further 456 gold coins at the site.

After the discovery, treasure hunters from the surrounding area searched at the Koblížek site; they occasionally found small coins there.

A monument at Koblížek commemorates the discovery made by Matěj Kadlec from Knížata.
