Velká Polom: Holiday apartments and houses

The ruin of the Milotička water fortress has been documented under this name since 1486. In 1573, Milotička was rebuilt in the Renaissance style under the Pražmů of Bílek. The water fortress is an important archaeological site and consists of four single-storey wings enclosing a rectangular courtyard.

Culture and history

The foundation of the Church of St. Wenceslas by the Přemyslid dynasty dates back to the late 13th century; together with the parish complex, the church in Velká Polom is a protected immovable cultural monument.

On the road between Velká Polom and Hrabyně, near a small woodland known as Hájek, stands the Chapel v Hájku. It was commissioned in 1905 and built in 1906 by Josef Urbiš, a builder from Mokré Lazce.

Townscape

The Věžový vodojem water tower stands at the highest point of the upper part of the town and shapes the characteristic panorama of Velká Polom.

Leisure

In the eastern part of Velká Polom, the sports complex offers a football pitch and tennis courts. Volleyball can be played outdoors as well as in the school gym and sports hall.

The pond near MŠ U Rákosníčka is suitable for sport fishing. The Jezdecký klub Velká Polom held show-jumping competitions next to the football pitch.

Cycling

Cycle route 6200 runs through Velká Polom from Háj ve Slezsku via the Čertův mlýn valley and continues towards Plesná.

A challenging cycle path leads south from the bus station in Velká Polom towards Krásné Pole, with a significant difference in elevation and a gravel surface. At the border of Krásné Pole, it connects to cycle route W at a rest area and allows cyclists to bypass road I/11 towards Ostrava.
