Stará Ves Nad Ondřejnicí: Renaissance, Poodří and Trails
History and Château
Stará Ves nad Ondřejnicí combines several notable examples of Renaissance architecture and church construction. The Church of St. John the Baptist was built on the site of an older wooden church at the expense of the then landowner Ctibor the Elder Syrakovský. Construction lasted from 1587 to 1589; in 1591, the church was consecrated by the Bishop of Olomouc, Stanislav Pavlovský.
The church's so-called transitional style combines Gothic and Renaissance elements. During the restoration of the interior, a Renaissance figural fresco from the period of its foundation, before 1600, was uncovered. The work carried out from 2001 to 2002 also revealed a depiction of Calvary with Christ, Aaron and Moses.
The château is a Renaissance building from the second half of the 16th century and features impressive sgraffito decoration. Cultural events and concerts take place in the arcaded courtyard. The château park complements the historic ensemble with an opportunity for walks.
